ThrowbackThursday | Where the Journey Began

July 23, 2026

Every movement has a beginning. Every legacy starts with one person willing to dream differently.

Long before Tharaka Women Welfare Programme (TWWP) became a beacon of hope for women and girls across Tharaka, there was a bold vision in the heart of Ms. Aniceta Kiriga, HSC.

She saw a future where girls could embrace their cultural identity without enduring harmful traditional practices. A future where education would replace limitation, opportunity would overcome poverty, and every girl would have the freedom to pursue her dreams.

That vision was never handed to her. It was built through unwavering determination, countless community conversations, resilience in the face of resistance, and an unshakable belief that change was possible.

What began as Ntanira Na Mugambo (Circumcision with Words) has grown into a movement that has transformed thousands of lives through the Alternative Rite of Passage, girls’ education, literacy programmes, women’s empowerment, and community development initiatives.

Today, every girl who stays in school, every woman who earns a sustainable livelihood, and every community that chooses positive change is living proof that one courageous vision can inspire generations.

As we look back, we celebrate not only how far we’ve come but also the countless lives that continue to be transformed because someone dared to imagine a better future.

Thank you, Ms. Aniceta Kiriga, HSC, for planting the seed of hope that continues to flourish today. 💚
